“No dress rehearsal, this is our life.”
– The Tragically Hip
(arguably one of Canada’s most iconic bands, who spoke with insight through their lyrics)
Lori McGrimmon completed her Masters of Psychology degree from Adler Graduate Professional School and is a C. Psych. Associate in her year of supervised practice in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Previously, Lori completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours from the University of Guelph with a major in psychology and a minor in child development. In addition, Lori has a Bachelor of Education degree from Brock University and spent 18 years teaching in an elementary school classroom.
Lori works from a trauma-informed lens and uses an eclectic approach to healing. After listening to your concerns she will offer options for treatment based on what she has heard. If you are seeking treatment after a traumatic experience, Lori uses both Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Cognitive Processing Protocol (CPT) to help process the traumatic event(s). She also uses a Cognitive Behavioural framework to understand the interactions between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. She draws on the strategies of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to help her clients build adaptive coping strategies. Most recently Lori became certified to offer the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), which is based in the Polyvagal Theory.
Lori works with transitional-aged youth (18 to 24 years of age), First Responders, and adults. She has a particular interest in the following areas, including (but not limited to):
Anxiety disorders
PTSD and trauma
OCD
